Murphy Community Classic – A New Tradition for Murphy

(Murphy, TX) – In conjunction with the football game between Plano East and Wylie high schools on Friday September 23, 2016 at Kimbrough Stadium in Murphy, the Moms of Murphy group has created a new tradition and event for their community.  The Murphy Community Classic is a friendly competition and a community event that encompasses all Murphy residents.

Murphy students attend either Plano ISD or Wylie ISD schools that eventually feed into Plano East and Wylie high schools.  This game provides an opportunity for all Murphy public school students to be represented at the same time and place.  Representatives from both school districts will be in attendance, along with members of the Murphy City Council.  The winning team will receive a travelling trophy representing Murphy history to display at their school, after being displayed the following day at Murphy Maize Days.  The trophy is being designed and created by local artist David Wolfe.  Mr. Wolfe is long-time Murphy resident and the father of both Plano East and Wylie alumnae.

T-shirts are available for purchase at $10 each.  Wylie shirts are maroon with a white Wylie HS logo and the Plano East are black with a gold logo.  They can be purchased by emailing MurphyCommunityClassic@gmail.comStudents, parents and neighbors are encouraged to purchase shirts and to attend the game.  Game attendees are also encouraged to enjoy a pre-game meal from Murphy restaurants, or to pick up a tailgate dinner.

The Murphy Community Development Corporation recommend the Moms of Murphy's application for a $2,500 grant be approved by the Murphy City Council under the Community Enhancement Grant program.
