The Smoking Woodys are a premier classic rock band based in North Texas. Performing music from the late 60s to the 90s and beyond, they offer those favorite nuggets that make the audience say I love that song! Their setlist taps into artists and bands like The Zombies, The Clash, The Cars, Santana, Tom Petty, The Eagles, Dwight Yoakam, Collective Soul, BlackBerry Smoke, and of course The Beatles and The Rolling Stones.

With decades of performance experience, the band is composed of Joe Pirro (guitars/vocals), Lee Arden (bass/vocals), Truett Hunt (guitars/vocals) and Tim Elinski (drums/vocals).

Performing R&B, rap, jazz, blues, soul, country, reggae and gospel, Saxogram elevates the musical experience to new heights by offering unique sounds for each concert.

A seasoned professional saxophonist based in Dallas, bandleader Tevin Williams brings over 20 years of experience to the music scene. Holding a degree in music education from the prestigious Prairie View A&M University, Tevin is passionately dedicated to sharing his musical talents around world.

The band is comprised of: Tevin Williams, saxophonist / vocalist; Jermaine Sanders, keyboard; Tony Mitchell Jr., bass guitar; Khalil Taylor, drums; and Willene Owens, singer.

Community invited to begin a new season with family fun, faith, fellowship, and opportunities to connect

St. Andrew Methodist Church is kicking off the fall season with two of its most anticipated annual traditions Back-to-School Blessings on Sunday, August 9, followed by the School Spirit & Tailgate Celebration on Sunday, August 16. Together, these events mark the beginning of a new ministry season, inviting families and the community to celebrate a fresh start through worship, fellowship, and fun while discovering opportunities to connect through classes, groups, recreation, service opportunities, and ministries for every stage of life.

"Fall is a season of new beginnings," said Rev. Arthur Jones, senior pastor of St. Andrew Methodist Church. "Whether you're sending a child to school, beginning a new chapter, or simply looking for a place to belong, we invite everyone to celebrate with us and discover a community where faith can grow and friendships can flourish."

The Fall Kickoff begins with Back-to-School Blessings on Sunday, August 9, when students, teachers, administrators, and school staff will be celebrated and blessed during all worship services as they prepare for the new school year. Families are also invited to capture the occasion with back-to-school photos beside an actual school bus.

The celebration continues the following Sunday with St. Andrew's annual School Spirit & Tailgate Celebration, transforming the campus into a lively festival of school pride and family fun. Guests are encouraged to wear apparel representing their favorite school while enjoying bounce houses, classic lawn games, live entertainment featuring the UNT Drumline and a professional DJ, fishing at the campus pond, and a Spirit Station, where guests can show their school pride with glitter face paint, temporary tattoos, and fun spirit-themed activities. Classic tailgate favorites, including burgers, hot dogs, and sweet treats, will be available for purchase.

In addition to these special events, the Fall Kickoff Season offers an opportunity for newcomers and longtime members alike to explore Bible studies, small groups, children's and student ministries, music programs, camps, outings, recreation, volunteer opportunities, and other activities designed to help individuals and families connect, grow, and serve together throughout the year.

Public relations icon and esteemed member of the late Lady Bird Johnsons brain trust, Martha Tiller will share stories of her fascinating life at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, August 27, at the Allen Public Library. A longtime witness and participant to history, Tiller was a staff assistant on an Emmy Award winning program for CBS Television in New York City and later Asst. to the Producer of the popular TV show PASSWORD with Goodson-Todman Productions. Returning to Texas, she worked for Texas governor John Connally and served as Communication Director for the Texas Fine Arts Commission in Austin from 1967 to 1969. Later, she was the press and social secretary to Lady Bird Johnson, assisting in her efforts beautify Austins Town Lake (now Lady Bird Lake) and protect wildflowers along Texas Highways. Prior to this she was Executive Assistant to President Lyndon B. Johnson.

In 1976, Martha moved to Dallas where she started her own firm, Martha Tiller Public Relations. Tiller not only appeared in two episodes of the popular television series Dallas, she also convinced the shows producers to feature Dallas elites as extras. In 1993, she escorted Anthony Kennedy Shriver to the Sixth Floor Museum in Dallas, where he was the first member of the Kennedy family to visit this iconic institution.
